You will gain more control of your ‘Word World’ if you disable the automatic features that replace the text that you type with other things. These features are bundled under the AutoCorrect feature, and here’s how you turn those off:
- On the menubar, at the very top of the screen, click on the word “Tools”.
- In the sub-menubar, under tools, click on the word “AutoCorrect Options…”.

- You will now be in the AutoCorrect dialog box. Click on the “AutoFormat” tab found at the top. Ensure all boxes in the Apply section are unchecked, and uncheck the “Ordinals (1st) with superscript” in the Replace section.

- Staying in the AutoCorrect dialog box, click on the “AutoFormat As You Type” tab. You should now see this box:

- Uncheck everything under the “Apply as you type” section, and uncheck all boxes under the “Automatically as you type” section.
- Now you can click on the “OK” button at the bottom of the dialog box.

When you send a file to us for editing, we review the text and record our edits through Track Changes. Track Changes is a feature that keeps track of every change made to your document while the Track Change feature is turned on. When the document is sent back to you, you can review these edits and choose to accept, reject, or revise the suggested changes made to your document. When working with the Track Changes feature, it is best to have the Reviewing Toolbar visible so that you can toggle the Track Change feature on and off by clicking on a button.
First, we need to check if your “Reviewing Toolbar” is turned on. Then we can turn Track Changes on:
- Click on “View” on your menubar.
- Click on “Toolbars”.
- Halfway down the list you should see “Reviewing”. If it does not have a check mark beside it, click on the word “Reviewing” to make that toolbar visible.

- On your page you should now see the “Reviewing Toolbar” somewhere on your screen, usually at the top, but it may be floating in the middle or docked on the left, right, or bottom of your screen. It looks like this:

- Now we need to turn Track-Changes on. You do this by clicking once on the “Track Changes” button, found on the “Reviewing Toolbar”. The “Track Changes” button is the second button from the right side on the “Review Toolbar” and it looks like this:

The “Track Changes” button is a toggle button: You press it once to turn the Track Changes feature on, and then press it again to turn the Track Changes feature off (like the power button on your computer).

When you receive your document back, it will be marked up with Track Changes reviewing marks. The Track Changes marks look different in different views. MS Word has several different ways for you to view your document, but most people work in either Normal view or Print Layout view. We recommend Print Layout view, so all of the screenshots that appear in these steps are in Print Layout view.
When reviewing the edits in your document, you can accept changes one-by-one, but this is quite time-consuming. We recommend you select an area by clicking and dragging, then accept all changes in that area (or reject changes, if that is what you wish to do). Here are the steps for doing that.
- First, let’s make sure you are in Print Layout view, so that your screen looks the same as the screenshots in these steps. To switch to Print Layout view, click once on the word “View” in the menubar, then click on the words “Print Layout”.
- Now we need to make sure that your Reviewing Toolbar is visible on the screen. First click on the word “View” on your menubar, then click on the word “Toolbars”. Halfway down the list of toolbars, you should see the word “Reviewing”. If it does not have a check mark beside it, then click on the word “Reviewing” to make that toolbar visible:

- Next, click and drag over the text where you wish to either accept or reject changes:

- Click once on the “Accept Changes” button on the Reviewing toolbar:

Or, you can click on the “Reject Changes” button on the Reviewing toolbar:

- Once you have accepted or rejected the changes, then the text should appear in black-and-white, as normal text. In this screenshot, the text is still selected from when I clicked and dragged across the text in step 3.
